AT CLUB TROPICANA DRINKS ARE FREE – CLEVER STUNT GETS THE OFFICE BUZZING

Clever stunt of the week goes to the guys at Tropicana juices who defeated the miserable UK weather to bring some sunshine into the lives of London commuters by installing their very own artificial sun.

The artist team at Greyworld was commissioned to put together the 2,500kg fake sun and after a six month construction project, the sun was suspended above London’s Trafalgar Square for one day only.

The Trafalgar Sun, as they called it, was 30,000 times bigger than a football and has a surface area of 200 square metres. Made up of orange material surrounding a multi-lamp array, it produces the equivalent light of 60,000 regular lightbulbs.

The whole process of installing the sun, to getting models to pose on deckchairs in bikinis to cheesy shots of passers-by looking intrigued were all captured on video which was then seeded out across the world by the power of PR resulting in some fantastic coverage.

Now here’s where the buzz starts to grow, as well as securing some fantastic coverage across traditional and online media, the team behind the @TropicanaJuices twitter feed were also on hand, offering everyone who tweeted using #trafalgarsun a free voucher for their lovely sunny juice. Not only did this drive up their twitter follower numbers but was also a brilliant data capture exercise, requesting emails in return for free juice.

Sun hats off to the Tropicana team for a fantastic example of truly integrated communication.
